We’re delighted to announce that our amazing Narla has given birth to seven beautiful puppies, the next wave of life-saving super sniffers.

Narla had three girls and four boys, all black Labradors and all are doing really well, gaining weight and confidence.

Mum and puppies are all being well looked after by our patient and experienced brood bitch holder with regular visits from our Dog Supply Advisor.

This is only the second litter from our breeding scheme after Leia had six puppies and many of those dogs are now in the final stages of their training.

Narla’s puppies will also start their journey to become Medical Alert Assistance Dogs at around eight weeks old when they will move to their volunteer puppy socialisers.

Are you looking for a furry challenge in the new year? Could you help one of them start their life-saving training? Is now the right time for you to welcome a puppy into your heart and home?

Being a puppy socialiser is incredibly rewarding and without these volunteers we wouldn’t be able to train and place dogs that alert to health conditions such as PoTS, Addison’s disease and severe allergies.

Puppy socialising involves caring for and training a puppy or young dog with the support and guidance of an MDD Socialising Trainer, using reward-based techniques. Socialisers need to care for the puppies, bring them to regular classes, and ensure they learn key skills and behaviours, including how to be confident and well behaved on public transport, in supermarkets, and anywhere else they may need to go when working.

Some of our puppy socialisers prefer to look after younger puppies like Narla’s brood, others when they’re a little more mature, and some will look after a puppy throughout the whole of its training.

We need volunteers like these within an hour of our Milton Keynes training Centre, close to our Essex-based Socialiser and within 30 minutes of Perth, Scotland.
